Alnmouth
An Outstanding Beach, Ghost Hunting and More!
Located only 4.6 miles east of The Bondgate Boutique, Alnmouth is only a few minutes drive along the A1068 towards Amble. Renowned for its sandy beach, the village has plenty to offer visitors all year round.
If you’ve ever travelled north to Scotland by train on the East Coast line, you may just have glimpsed the picturesque pastel coloured cottages of Alnmouth. The view has inspired many people to get off the train to investigate at the tiny station. Alnmouth is a beautiful village to discover and many who choose to explore return again and again.
Undoubtedly, Alnmouth’s most popular attraction is its stunning beach. Best enjoyed at low tide when the fine, golden sands lead gently down to the shallow sea, the beach is a top place to visit for a stroll. Many people also picnic, paddle or swim in the warmer months. Dogs are allowed access all year round and walkers enjoy spectacular coastal views, rock pools and beach combing.
The village itself has a wide range of quirky restaurants, pubs, gift shops, cafes and hotels. There’s even a golf course right by the beach if you fancy a quick round.
The Schooner Hotel is said to be the most haunted in the UK and has been investigated by the popular TV series, ‘Most Haunted’. Call in for a home-cooked meal or book a night in one of the infamous haunted bedrooms – not for the faint-hearted!
If you’re feeling more culturally inspired, a visit to The Old School Gallery is certainly advised and there’s also Alnmouth Arts Festival in June. The festival showcases the work of local artists who gather to display and sell paintings, crafts, textiles and ceramics.
Take a whole day to explore Alnmouth. Busy in the summer months, a trip out of season is recommended.
Alnmouth is 4.6 miles from Alnwick.
