Alnwick Market
A Traditional Market with Something for Everyone
The central market place in Alnwick is the venue for one of the region’s most popular weekly and monthly markets – a great place to visit for all the family. With markets held every Saturday and specialist Farmers’ & Crafts markets on the last Friday of each month, each market day has something different to offer. Additional markets are held on Thursdays from April to October.
People from the town and local area have gathered at the market every week for hundreds of years. There’s an eclectic range of goods for sale, from fruit and veg to jewellery, plants and cut flowers to regional artisan delicacies and continental foods. As well as regular traders, you’ll often find visiting sellers offering something more unusual.
The market has a friendly, bustling atmosphere – traders competing genially for business with the locals who come to take advantage of the unbeatable bargains. Whatever the weather, both traders and buyers make the most of the day and you’re sure to meet some interesting characters.
The market place itself, a cobbled square in the town centre, is surrounded by a variety of independent shops and cafes. Enjoy bargain hunting on the market then visit one of the nearby cafes for a warming drink whilst you watch the fascinating market operations. It’s a great opportunity to do some people watching whilst soaking up the lively atmosphere.
